FAQ's
Here you will find frequently asked questions for osteopathy
What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a form of hands-on treatment that can include muscle work, joint adjustment, cranial and visceral techniques as well as a comprehensive consultation and advice.
Appointment times?
Appointments at Be Well Osteopathy are 60 minutes for an initial consultation and 45 minutes for return patients.
Muscle Work
This involves manipulating the muscles by means of massage, stretching, deep tissue work, muscle energy techniques, and trigger point work. I tailor what I use in treatments to each person and their body, some prefer deep pressure, while some prefer light.
Joint adjustments
Joint adjustments or "cracking" is a quick way of improving joint mobility, especially (but not limited to) spinal mobility. I use precise movements to adjust the specific joint that is restricted. I perform joint adjustments gently and carefully, and usually near the end of treatment to ensure the body is warmed up.
Cranial
Cranial treatment is a gentle form of treatment used commonly on babies and those looking for a more comprehensive form of treatment. This can include cranial-sacral treatment, Balanced-ligament-tension, fascial and positional release, and fluid-drive.
Visceral
Visceral treatment is aimed to the organs of the body, and any restrictions surrounding them. Inflammation, operations and infection can cause scar tissue and adhesions within the body, which can limit natural organ motility (movement). Visceral treatment is an effective way of breaking down scar tissue and restoring natural movement in the body.
